Great Granny's Tea Cakes
These are kinda of like sugar cookies. My great granny was from Britian and these are her recipe. I am the only one in the family that I know still makes them. They are not as sweet as a normal sugar cookie, but are sooo very good.
2-3 cups flour
1 cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons sweet milk ( I use regular milk)
1 teaspoon vanilla (I use a liberal teaspoon)
Take a medium pan (bowl), put flour in it - make a hole in the flour, then put all ingredients in the hole. Then mix. Makes a nice dough not to stiff. Bake at 350 until done.
Make only one batch at a time
There are two ways to do this:
My way #1- roll into small balls (or use cookie scoop) than dip top in sugar, place on cookie sheet.
My Way #2 - roll into small balls (or use cookie scoop) place on cookie sheet, than dip the bottom of a glass in sugar and press on top of the ball until desired thickness.
Great Granny's way (according to Great Aunt Jerelene) - roll out dough, cut with cookie cutter. Put in oven. Then sprinkle with sugar immediately after you thake them out of the oven.
